This month’s coffee morning is an extra special combined event, hosted by Vaughn Winter, a centenary event in line with last year’s touching national remembrances of the WWI centenary. Laxton suffered its final casualty during the Rhineland occupation in April 1919, and so it seemed appropriate to hold our own centenary event on this date.

Features at the coffee morning include;

  • an exhibition detailing both those who fought and fell and those who returned to Laxton
  • a weapons display featuring a large collection of original bladed weapons, pistols, rifles and machine guns
  • a living history element of both;
    • a display from the Royal Army Medical Corps exploring the treatments and medical equipment of the time
    • an infantry re-enactment with a platoon of “Tommies” demonstrating the day to day experience of a soldier during WWI from the morning brew up to rifle firing

All of this plus the usual tea, coffee and delicious cakes at reasonable prices. This commemorative event is not to be missed!

Admission is free, donations are very welcome. Proceeds to be split between the church, village hall and the British Legion.
